six pack fuel delivery, need help with pump. - 04/19/11 07:58 PM

I have a 69 6 barrel road runner. I didn't care for the Holley blue pump. Im told they're okay for the track, but mine is driven mostly on the street, and sometimes at the track. I did try a Mallory 140 which I liked better than the Holley, but this one went out, but It was used when I got it. Before I purchase another Mallory, this time a new one, does anyone have any recommendations on an electric pump? Or the least amount of GPH I would need? 440, .030 over, 915's, 509 cam, factory 2100 Holleys, automatic, fuel pressure set at 7psi which I believe I should bring down to 6psi. Any help would be appreciated.

I bought and used a Magnafuel 275 pump for my six pak street car It made a little over 600 HP(512 C.I. ) on the engine dyno so I bought a pump with a little room for future growth Which I ended up needing when I switch to a set of CNC ported Eddy RPM heads Are you now or are you going to run a fuel filter between the pump and the gas tank? If so make sure and use a 80 micron or bigger filter, not a paper 10 micron element like I did I used a BG 500 fuel filter with a 10 micron paper filter and it acted as a choke point at WOT I ended up buying a 100 micron Aeromotive in line screen filter to use between the pump and gas tank sump

Good info Cab...I've ofter wondered how much is too much as far as the microns are concerned with the real world filtering VS overkill... Did'nt give much consideration to the restriction end of the equasion depending on the style of filter....

A mechanical pump will work fine w/ that set-up. I ran a factory 440-6 hi-volume pump on the 1st 440-6 engine. 528 solid, ported closed chamber heads, 2800 stall 3.91's no issues.

Planning on swapping a 440 Sixpack engine from one of my Challengers to another soon.
Previous street/strip setup was a Holley blue pump to regulator then carbs, rather loud but with the old 3" exhaust I really didn't hear it much.
On this new setup with a more street driven Challenger I plan on using a HP Hemi style mechanical fuel pump going through stock 5/16" fuel lines to a filter then pressure gauge, if I have too much fuel presure I'll run the line through a regulator.
I don't think I'll have any fuel delivery issues at all.
