Platinum or Regular plugs in 2005 Hemi?

2005 300C w/Hemi 5.7 86k time for a wire and plug change.

Thinking of going with Champion #3570 Platinum plugs; I heard the rumors aledging No Platinums in Hemis were unfounded

We've had it since 35k and never done anything but regular oil changes, needs an EGR valve too (code pops up only on cold mornings this past winter) gonna change thermostat to and replace rack soon.

Anyways, plug thoughts? Thanks!

You asked, so heres my thoughts.....
Run the OEM plugs. Mopar engineers spec'd them for a reason. Change them at the intervals set in the owners manual. Use the specified gap.
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 mill. In some cases, the factory OR an aftermarket warranty outfit will scrutinize any nonstock part you put on the vehicle in the event of a failure. I had 2 lifters go bad at 57,000 miles and they picked me on the oil change records AND the FRAM filters that I used occasionaly. I now use Mopar or NAPA filters ! I use the Champion plugs for 3 reasons: They are OEM, they are cheaper than platinum and their longer life is a moot point. My 2007 requires new plugs at 30,000 miles. Remember to use a dab on anti-sieze compound on the threads!

I recently put plugs in our 05 durango with a hemi. I can't remember the numbers off hand. I think it was 2 different numbers because 8 were bought at a different time. I'll look and see.

I also replaced the EGR valve about a year ago or so. Bought mine at Car Quest for around 40 bucks. I was told the dealer wanted $100+ FOR ONE. pUT ABOUT 30k MILES ON it so far, so good.

When my kid changed the plugs in his 04 he went Champion Platinums.His buddy works at Champion and gave him probally 4 sets.He picked up about 1 MPG and they have been in for 35K now.The OEs he pulled at 26K.Rocky

i use strickly lztr5aix from ngk. or there copper version for the 5.7 hemi.

the 6.1 uses one heat range colder plug btw. from whats stock in a 5.7

I have run platinum plugs on a whole bunch of different NA 5.7 vehicles 03 to 08. All ran great.

If you're under warranty, run the OE stuff so nobody will question it.

If not (or you just don't care about warranty) you won't go wrong with platinums.

A guru had spoken long ago and had told me to never use platinum plugs on 5.7s, ever. When asked "why can't I use platinums on a 2006 5.7 (which has the same coils as a 6.1, and why did the 6.1 have platinum plugs all along if platinums are so bad)?".....no answer....which at that point was a good clue to just use whatever and don't worry about it.

Am I enamoured with platinum or other exotic material plugs? heck no. For some cars they aren't worth it, and they cause alot of misfires on supercharged or other boosted applications. Then there are cars like my GTX which doesn't get enough miles put on it to wear out copper core/normal cheap plugs, so why bother with anything else.

and another note. with as many of these cars as i have worked on i have seen ngk plugs stock in them. heck, if you buy heads from moapr now the eagles use a ngk plug. there platinum also.

never looked. i always used the ngk. i found that they idle better.
but again, these where not really stock cars.

Trivia:

"Champion" is the moniker of Albert Champion, who is the pioneer of the modern day configuration of the spark plug. "AC" [as in A C Delco, as well] = Albert Champion. GM plugs?? Or, Japaneese plugs or Ford [ne - Autolite]?

I like the Autolites for longevity and anti-foul.

I was running Autolites in my 360 with Pertronix ignition and the car just wasnt running right. Then on the advice of someone here I popped in some Platinums (I used Bosch), and the car immediately ran much smoother and stronger. Its and older engine than yours but thats my experience. Next Im goint to try those new E3 plugs. My brother has a 454 in a 69 Caprice and he swears by them. Claims better milage, more power, smoother running and easier starting.
