67 Barracuda Formula S (Power Steering)?

67 Barracuda Formula S (Power Steering)? - 04/03/11 07:31 PM

My son just bought his first Barracuda project car. It is a 67 Fastback, Formula S, with a 383, and auto trans. He would like to eventually upgrade the manual steering to power steering if possible.

I have talked to a long time Barracuda owner/expert who told me that the swap is doable, by using a PS column from another Barracuda.

My son, asked someone else, and was told that it would not work because of the big block in the engine compartment.

Anyone out there who has done this swap, and can confirm what I have been told? How about if an aftermarket column is used?

It will fit fine, but was not available at the beginning of the 383 A-body production run. Any 67-69 A-body floor shift column will swap in or you can simply swap the shaft. You will want the 90 degree adapter for the pressure hose at the gear.

mike337, I would like to do the same to my 68- it steers like a power steering car without the belt on. Does anyone know the number of the PS box? And which pitman arm one should use?

You need any small sector power gear and use the pitman arm that is already on the car.
