1960 Dodge VIN question - 03/20/11 12:24 AM

I have found a nice restorable 1960 Dodge, but I think there is a problem that could keep me from buying the car. The owner has lost the title, and the VIN tag is missing. Is there any other way to know what the VIN is without the tag or the title? Is the number stamped anywhere else on the body or engine?

Is it possible to get a title without knowing the VIN? Please help, since I really like this car, but don't want to wind buying a parts car that I can't get a title for.

It is possible to have the DMV issue a new VIN to the vehicle. Check with your state DMV I would conduct a lean sale and have them issue a new VIN. You might even be able to register it at a scrach built vehicle.

My old truck, (1960) has the VIN number also stamped on the frame drivers side, about between the front spring hangers. Dave

Was the title was in the sellers name when he lost the title? If so then he can get a duplicate title.

In case you do not know, it's been growing more difficult to get titles for old vehicles. Figure out the title before you buy it, or don't pay more than a parts car price for it.
