V68 and V78 codes on 71 Challengers - 03/04/11 04:39 AM
I have noticed both of these codes on separate 71 Challengers recently and I am curious as to what factors determined if the car got a V68 or V78 stripe delete code??? I would appreciate any input!

The 3rd digit as an "8" designates delete . The V6X for example would be the longitudinal R/T stripe (in black) and the V7X is more of a pinstripe . V5X would be protective body side molding . V8X used on B bodies ,or V9X (70 Challenger) would be a bumblebee type (transverse) stripe .
Last digit is the color of course , I just used X(BLACK) as an example.

Greg,
Thanks for posting and I understand what you are saying about the type and color of stripe. What I am trying to get clarified is if you get a V68 or V78 stripe code, you are still going to have a car with no stripe. Why did both codes get used for deleting a stripe on a car? That being said, are there other options that a car will/will not get to determine what stripe delete code to use on the car being built at the factory?

JH cars had the V7_ painted pin stripes STANDARD .... DELETED are coded V78.
JS cars had the V6_ "SPORT" side stripes STANDARD .... DELETED are coded V68.

I thought that might have been the case as one car was an RT and the other was a non-RT car.
Thanks 6bblgt!
