Stock 340 Replacement Cam - I'm beating my head....... - 02/23/11 10:33 AM
I have beat my head on what to decide....can someone suggest the best replacement camshaft using the stock rocker arms and push rods for a total stock 1969 340 with 10:5.1 compression, stock exhaust manifolds, auto, and 3.23 gears in a 69 Dart? I would like the performance that it had when I had it close to new...strictly street driven, no racing. I have read so much stuff on the subject that I have a headache from hell...and I still don't know what to use.
Thanks a lot!
Kenny

I'd try the MP P4452761. It's about the same as the old 340 4-spd cam. We used it in my son's stock 360, worked real nice. Dave

are you looking for high vacuum for power brakes and a smooth stock idle? do you really have 10.5 compression, or is that just what the pistons said?
if you have a true 10.5:1 compression on iron heads, I'd go a few steps over stock for a nice performance gain, you'd gain a nice lope at idle, and a lost more performance over stock. just don't go too many steps over stock, or you'd end up with no bottom end torque and a motor that needs to spin to 7,000 rpm to make peak power, which won't be good with 3.23 gears.
still...I'd consider a few steps bigger than stock if you have a true 10.5 compression

Bob Karakachian has the correct 1 year only 4spd cam available. As well as other profiles. Before you make a purchase, its worth a an email. I picked up one for my A12-440-6v.
