I am looking for instructions to delete 3rd gear WOT converter lockup on a 2001 46re transmission. Anyone know how this is done?

A little lost , you want the convertor to stay unlocked ? If you have your foot on the firewall it should stay unlocked till the trans shifts to OD .

Correct,it locks(converter clutch) up in 3rd under WOT. I don't want it to. I'm not sure that other variations do the same.

do you have OD locked out by pushing the button on the shifter? If this is the case why do you want it to not lockup ? I'm trying to understand what you are doing ?

I'm just trying to keep the converter clutch alive with increased engine output. I think I've got the answer. Thanks for the help.

Try Martin Saine. He mods the valve bodies so the vert locks in 4th NOT 3rd.

That's easy, just put a switch in the TCC signal line and open the line when you want to override the computer ... which is what controls lockup and OD application , not the valve body .

If you wire in an electrical switch to close the brake light circuit, it will cause the PCM computer to unlock the torque converter clutch, even if the throttle is still depressed.

This trick can be useful on the highway when climbing hills that are just a bit too steep for Overdrive 4th gear on the 46 trans.
If you very lightly touch the brake pedal to trigger the brake light circuit only and not apply any real braking pressure,
the TCC will unlock
RPM will increase by about 300
and the torque multiplication of the slipping converter will sometimes be enough to avoid a downshift to 3rd gear.

I notice that on several newer 2004+ Chrysler vehicles the PCM computer is programmed to do it this way instead of downshifting.
