My 97 Jeep (318) won't stay running. As soon as you let off the pedal it stalls out. You have to keep the tach at about 1k to keep it running. Any suggestions? Gas tank is full.

any recent changes? Happened all of a sudden? take out idle mixture screws and shoot a 2 second blast of starting fluid in each one then reinstall the screws (count the turns to get em back the same). classic vacuum leak symptom. Holler when you find something

Check your battery. It might be battery time.

didn't realize it was FI.
I'm totally lost on the new stuff and anything I might suggest would only add to the prob. Good luck w it.

Maybe idle air control valve.

Did you recently change, disconect, or have the battery go dead? If so you need to reset the idle air control valve, to do this start by holding the rpms at 1000 or so and very slowly lower the rpms until the ecm can relearn the idle. This will take 3-5 min.

Had the battery out two weeks ago to replace the headlight bulb, but it was fine till just today. I'll check the battery better tomorrow. My wife said at first it was dead, but I jumped it and it ran fine. Even started on it's own after shutting it off.

Good catch..
If the battery is weak when the idle drops down below 1K, the alternator's output drops..
And the battery does not have enough juice to keep the computer & ignition running.

I had that issue with my 98 Dakota..

Just my $0.02..

Dirty throttle body? Happened on my 95 Ram occasionally.

We run into the no idle condition anytime one of the dodge vans in our fleet runs the battery down and needs a jump start. After conecting the jump cables I unplug the ECU for about 30 seconds and reconect it and then they idle normally.

My 96 did the same thing. Was the battery.

Only probem was that my wife drove the thing for about 2 weeks before it quit on her.
