Brake Pedal

Ok, I need some help. 75 dart front disc, rear drum, new brake lines, hoses wheel cyls. and Master cyl. The brake pedal will not return to the full rest position after applying brakes. I have to pull the pedal up with my left foot. I checked the booster for any vacuum leaks, none. When I remove the vac. hose from the booster and plug it off at the manifold the pedal returns normaly, and of course the pedal fells soft. I've bled the system several times, both pressure and gravity, no air in the system, so I guess my question is with the booster not having any leaks could it still be bad? The brakes worked fine before the resto, but now I can't seem to make any progress on this issue, any help or idea's would be great. I did notice last weekend I took it on a little road test and the pedal will go in so far and then make a fast movement downward and really applys the brakes, then you have to pull the pedal up by hand or with you foot. About ready to give this car stuff up and find something less costly and hassle to spend my money on, tired of this money pit.I work on it more than enjoy it.

Thanks Rabid. Was beginning to think no one here had any idea's or hadn't had this problem before. Don't know what happened from the removal to the install from a year being apart, but oh well. Sort of thought that may have been the problem, but wasn't sure. Been throwing coins at this thing fixing stupid stuff and I'm at the point I'm just ready to quit this stuff once and for all. If someone would make a good offer I would probaly move this car.

Yes I've had parts go bad from sitting esp several ign boxes that worked fine when parted and were not jostled in storage but for sure went bad in a certain length of time (maybe a year). When I get to feeling rabid I have to step away for an hour or a day & get calmed down. I'm not a PB guru but might check the pushrod clearance to the bottom of the piston recess (~1/8") though it sure sounds like a classic booster prob

Sorry for putting the letter b instead of the letter p. One of those days I guess. Yes it amazes me how things go wrong when they worked before. I mean you remove it, set it aside and then re-install it and now have issues. I restored a 73 roadrunner a few years ago and never really had any little problems, went together good and was a reliable car, but this car I swear its cursed or something, one thing after another, at this point I'm half afraid to drive it anywhere as my wife says the same thing. I guess this car is really going to have to earn my trust as time goes on or it will find a new home. Just getting tired of all the problems. I had less problems with my bracket car and it was beat on a weekly basis where as this car doesn't seem to get out of the garage and it's something else.

No sweat on the letter & I was just taking adv of the (slight) gaffe to be facetious. Yes some cars are possessed. Had a (non) Mopar friend w a buick & over a period of time he had dozens of related and non related prob w it but he liked the body style (& it was a black 4dr & did have a bit of class to it, as much class as a non Mopar can have) so he kept sinking money into it. Some days he 'd get it out of the shop & several days later another prob w stop it dead in the water

Back when I restored my Challenger I had been driving it for about a month when the booster failed... It had been fine then one day backing it out of the driveway the pedal pulled hard down to the floor & the car wouldn't move at all... Thank god it didn't happen while I was driving at 70+ MPH on a curvy mountain road...

The booster had been rebuilt but apparently an Oring got pinched or something...

Anyway like Robert said, change out the booster.. Hopefully the car will hit the point where it settles into being a fun reliable driver...

Thanks for the encouragement, after a while it just becomes a chore instead of enjoyment. Nice to take something in disrepair and bring it back to a presentable piece, but man these cars do try your patience sometimes. You work on them for so long and then the time comes to start to enjoy them and the little things ju
