power steering pump identification - 09/24/10 08:14 PM

So I'm still struggling with getting a working ps pump into my 72 charger (400 B block) after it started leaking fluid badly a few weeks ago (1/2 qt a day badly). First I ordered a saginaw pump by mistake, then when the chrysler/federal one arrived it had a 0.625" press-fit shaft, while the one on the car was 0.685", and so the pulley didn't fit. I couldn't find a pulley anywhere for less than $100, so I decided to order a rebuild kit and repair the leaky pump. So I order the seal kit for the chrysler/federal pump that came with a 3rd gen charger with a 400, and it doesn't fit at all--the new reservoir seal is way too big, for starters. At least now that the pump is disassembled, I might have a better chance identifying the model number, so I can get the proper seal kit.

Does anyone recognize this pump? The number on the front reads 2129823-3, and on the reservoir side there's a pad with 'D 30' stamped on it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Matt

That`s an old style TRW pump. I think that one is a .94 pump as opposed to the TRW 1.2 which had a hex recess in the shaft end. That`s a 1961 casting number on it and it wasn`t used after around 1966.

Wow, thanks. I wonder how it ended up in my car haha. Do you know where I might be able to get a rebuild kit for it?
