Dip Stick Install HELP - 09/10/10 11:45 PM
Pulled out the tube with the stick earlier today.
How do you re-seat that puppy ?? There is a small wire looking ring on block end of the tube ?
Thanks in Advance

slip an open end wrench on it and tap that to seat it and if little room might need a crows foot. I'd clean the tube and carefully spray a bit of starting fluid in the block hole to clean it (it evaporates right out) & possibly expanding the end (slightly) of the tube w your flaring tool so it grips tight in there and loctite it & drive it home.

If that ring is at the very bottom of the tube then the tube is broken off at the block. If it is you need to fish the remainder of the old tube out and install a new tube.

Not broken, don't think so any way, bottom of tube is flared. Looked again and it's a tight squeeze to get at the block end of the tube ?

Can't you just stick a long screwdriver inside the tube and lightly tap it in?
I'd take some sandpaper and gently round the leading edge of the tube if its reluctant to start.

Toward the bottom of the stick there should be a ring and then the stick will be about 1" to 1 1/2" longer. That extra goes into the block. The easiest way is to put a wrench that just fits around the tube against the top of the ring at a right angle and tap on the wrench handle to drive the tube into the block

I agree with Stumpy. I think the tube is broken off.
Where is the bracket that is welded to the tube and bolts onto the engine mount to hold it in. It should take very little force to slip that tube back in the block and bolt up the bracket to hold it in. Post a picture of what you have left and maybe it will help us help you!

There is a specialty tool made for this application. The tool has half of the bottom part open about 3 inches to fit over the tube down to the ring or ridge part. Now the top half of the tool part is like a chisel so you can use a hammer on it to tap the tool, driving the dip stick tube into the block.

If he is saying the end of the tube is flared, and there is a ring at the oil pan rail, I'll throw my bet into the pot that it's broken off.

The first thing to do now is get the old tube end out of the block. Sometimes you can thread a bolt or screw into the tube in the block and pull the broken piece out.
