stuborn Torsion bar bolts - 07/31/10 12:46 PM

Ticks and tips to get them bolts on the front end to turn, I need to get the front end up as high as possible to clear the headers on a 72 scamp. I am aware of the implications and alignment issues, but I need the hight right now, and them bolts wont move so I sequster the help of the experts.

Also Hi to any of you that I havnt chatted with in a few yrs, been a while, sucked for a while but im back in a car.

thanks

Sounds like they are frozen pretty well. A good soak with penetrating oil, wait a while and gentle heat may help. You can try backing them out first. If you get them moving, back out all the way. Clean the threads with a wire brush and re-assemble with grease.

you are going to have to turn it into a 4x4 to get ground clearance , that's the problem with cheap headers , they go under the steering linkage. get a propane torch and heat it up the adjuster nut bar.

John I put the new wheels and tires on the back, the damn nose is about rubbing the asphalt, I had to dig out them old crappy ramps to get it up high enough to get rhe floor jack under the k frame, the back end looks good Its a lot of tire under the back though. Ive never seen these bolts so stuck on anything I ve owned, and its not all rust, I can always budge them

How tall are those back tires ? now you need 15's on the front to even it out Sounds like you need a cheater bar on that wrench handle .

I had the same problem with my Sport Fury. We put the car on a lift, heated the adjuster block, (not the bolt) backed off the adjustment bolt, let cool, then sprayed it with penetrating oil and re-adjusted the ride height. It took about 5 minutes. Be sure to back off the adjustment first.

Make sure the wheel are hanging. That takes tension off the bars. Then as said spray with good penetrating oil.Work the bols back and forth and some heat on the blocks will help. After they move use anti sieze on them.Rocky
