Magnum head valve springs - 07/19/10 04:40 AM

I have a set of magnum heads with these valve springs installed and was wondering if it will be safe to use them. The cam is stock but is reground to 0.512 lift.
Thank you

what are their current installed height? reading this, coil bind height is 1.15" (1.75" IH, coil bind at .6" lift), so open height you'll want to be no less than 1.18". my magnums with 2.2L retainers and hughes 1110 springs had an install height of 1.62"....if your are similar, that would limit lift capacity to ~.44".

you sure they aren't these springs? they have a coil bind height of 1.040"...

if they are actually the 1102's, I'd replace them with the 1110's...

I have a receipt of when the machine shop put the valve springs on my heads and it says the springs were installed 130# @1.700", 0.530 lift. Would this spring setup be okay to run?

I'd like to know how they got 1.7" IH on a magnum head...there's not much material on the top of the head to machine the spring pocket, and I don't know of any +.1" retainers to work with the 8mm valves...

I'd probably buy or borrow a valve spring mic to check actual IH, but if they are set up to that 1.7" IH spec, they should be fine.
