Question for 4 speed dump the clutch guys - 06/10/10 02:52 AM

Ok, I took my Dart out yesterday.
Usually, I set the line lock, and roast the rear tires, before taking off, letting off the button as the tires are spinning,.
When I am going to go "through the gears"....
Anyhow, since I switched to a different shifter, without the "Lock" button, . THIS time, I just revved it to 3000 rpm's and side stepped the clutch. It took off great and everything, not much spinning of the rear tires, but my question and reason for posting, is
When You guys just dump the clutch, from a standing start, do You ever almost pass out?
I felt almost sick for a few seconds and kind of dizzy and cross eyed, just for a moment.
Probably only seconds...I thought it was just me...But the 18 year old nephew, said he felt that way too..
Its the first time its ever happened to me, and its got me worried a little.
The car is a 493 cu. inch 12.5:1 440, Muscle Motors stage 2 Iron bracket race heads, .640 Ultradyne cam, Mopar M-1 4150 intake, with adaptor for a 1050 dominator. MSD Digital ignition and distributor....
4.30 gears, Liberty hemi 4 speed 833,
with 13.5x30x15 inch Mickey Street Bias plys.
Super Stock springs, etc etc..It launched real hard, and as I took off, I felt myself, being forced backwards, and was also trying to grab the next gear, fighting the "g" force....
Just wondering, if its happened to anyone else, is all....and wondering maybe I need to adjust the way, I take off?
Or go see the Doctor.

The 'G' force isn't that great. I'd see a doctor.

I have been driving 4-speeds for 32 years and have not have that happened to me. Maybe you have an exhaust leak, were you driving it for awhile before you dumped the clutch?

You're probably fine- just have to get used to it, I got broke in early in life by my Dad's super bee. My wife gets that way in my Dart if I launch it and powershift 2&3 and it's not like she drives a civic either- her daily driver runs 13.50's.

Sounds like a fun car and good choice on the 4 speed
Barring exhaust coming right up through the shifter boot or elsewhere like someone else said, just enjoy it.
What type of clutch are you using? It looks like your making some good power and if your not used to it, it does take a bit to get used too.
I leave around 6800-7000 in my big block and the first passes of every year are "different"
Pull the belts tight and the one between your legs helps too!

Ive never driven a 3 pedal car that will launch hard on a clutch dump, but I will say my cousin has an SRT8 Jeep and romping that thing from a dead stop gives me that queezy roller coaster stomach feeling and it takes a few seconds to go away.

Well,
to answer the exhaust question, it runs real rich, when just going the 30 mph speed limit, here in town.
I cant let it "rip" until I get out of town about 10 or so minutes away. It never really bothered me, with the exhaust smell before. I just roll all the windows down. Its not like I am driving while engulfed in a blue cloud or anything!
That shifter I put in, is an e-body pistol grip, so I have to scrunch forward, to reach down and grab it. So cannot likely belt myself in with a harness. I would move the seat up, but am about 6' 3" tall
I just have been using the old single factory style seatbelt.
I have had this car with a 340 and a 4 speed, then with an automatic, and then with a 383 and auto...and now back to a 493 and a different 4 speed and lower gears too. Never had any dizzy feelings ever. Hopefully, I am simply not used to that first drive for the last several months.
The ONLY "real" time that it runs GOOD, is when its revving over 2 or 3000 rpm's and it just wants to go faster as it runs, better and smoother and, really runs good, with the throttle open all the way!
So, its kind of a pain in the *** to drive, unless, my foots in it.
It was going to be my "race" car, but then I sold My street car.
I guess, I need to try again and see, if I have the same reaction, if, it happens again, I will go make a Doctor's appointment.
Thanks, for all the replies
GTX, What You described, is kind of exactly what I felt! JUST like a "rollercoaster queasy" thing!
like if I wanted to I could have !!!
