Wierd noise comming from my speedometer?

While driving my 71 Charger suddenlly the speedo in the rallye cluster will start making a high pitch grinding noise. the needle will bounce higher, suddenly jumping from around 45 to 70-80 MPD.
Is the problem with the speedometer? It seems to do it less the more I drive it.
Anyone have this problem?

Sounds like you need to remove the speedo cable core to clean and lube it.
