Who has used VHT high temp paint on headers

You don't have to use an oven. On the can they have a procedure to cure it on the car. Something like idle it for ten minutes, let it cool completely, repeat, run for 20 minutes etc. Oh and the final steps: watch it all fall off and the rust appear.

Instead of VHT, I used Eastwood's High Temperature Exhaust paint. I first glass-bead blasted my manifold, then (wearing rubber gloves) washed it with hot soapy water, rinsed and blew it dry with compressed air. I applied a liberal coating of Eastwood's PRE paint prep, then sprayed a couple coats of the High Temp paint on. I've put over 1,000 miles on it since January 2009, and haven't noticed any flaking or rusting.

I used it on manifolds and found it worked well.

Headers...not a chance. They are a totally different ball game. Even powder coating will come off if you have a problem with timing etc..

As mentioned, don't waste your time

I've used VHT on headers it lasted 2 years then started going bad slowly. Acetone wash and sand blast prep is a must. If you touch them with your bare hands before or after paint you will see it soon! I gave up on ceramic coatings, my new Jet Hot headers rusted and so did another fellows, not sure where he went. Mine are pealing badly on my Dart. Jet Hot did em twice! The only thing that I find that works every time is stainless steel. Its only too expensive if your selling the car. I've had my Cuda for 27 years, never using mild steel again. Ad up the value of your time , blasting, paint, prep year after year?

I've used it for years and never had an issue. But it's been awhile since I've used it on a daily driver. Limited use within the last 3 or so years on customers cars and it's held up fine. I know this from when they come in for periodic maintenance. Powder /Ceramic coatings etc all seem to fail rather quickly. Especially in the areas that don't get adequately coated IE: between the tubes etc.

just sandblast headers and use stove polish, the stuff you brush on then rub in. works like a charm.

I tried VHT on my headers a few years ago and it only lasted about a week before they turned to rust.

Last time I used Seymour hi-temp "cast-blast" and it holds up a lot better but still not perfect. They smoked the first few starts but after a few heat cycles it cured ok. I did them about a year ago now and they are just starting to rust again on the bottom of the car from road spray but it's easy to touch up.

My TTI headers are 4 years old and the ceramic coating still looks good. They dulled down some during my last camshaft break in.....Thats to be expected though. It states that in their tech sheet.

I blasted my new headers, then painted with VHT, then had them baked at the local powdercoaters. Of course I didn't touch them with bare hands, though you don't know what happened at the powder coaters. Didn't last well at all, I doubt if I have 5 hours on the motor and most of the paint is gone.
