Painting Fiberglass Chin Spoiler - 03/10/10 03:43 AM

I have installed my Year One fiberglass, after market chin spoiler and I like it. Now I need to paint it. What is the least amount of work and effort I can put into it to paint it a flat black like the hood. At this point I am not real concerned with a real quality job sometime soon the entire car will get painted when all the accesories are complete.
What kind of prep work and will rattle can work?
PS The picture is just before the spoiler went on.

Black primer, Rustolium flat black paint.

It may have "mold release agent" on it. Clean well and sand before painting. Agree rattle can would work. Rustoleum black auto primer and Krylon "semi flat black" would be my choice. Both dry fast.

scuff-er'-up with some 120 or so ...and as said above ...

120? are you nuts?I hear 80 works too

Sand with 320 grit wipe down with prep-solv and spray away.

Excuuuuuuse me ..... I should have said 120 wet-or-dry and I will STICK with that.

LOTS of gel-coat has a "gloss" to it ...and for good paint-binding it needs to be handled that way.

320 ? ..

....YEAH .. you charge-buy-the-hour and THAT would rack-up a nice bill for the customer !!

wet,dry,hot,cold, I don't care .

if you prep gelcoated fiberglass parts for paint with 120 grit paper,then I have nothing to say,I'm speechless

Yea 120 seems a bit rough to me also but i don't do fiberglass. I would just take a burgandy scotch brite pad and get rid of the gloss, then prep sol and hit it with your favorite spray bomb

120? I usually use 400 wet or dry.

120 for oak maybe

320 or 400 is what I would use.

...and Guyz ... I have not done a whole lot of paint work ! But I have talked to PLENTY of guys who have ...on the parts I have made.

Yes .... 120 is ruff ... but for someone who is just doing a quick-prep by-hand with a spray bomb on a part below the front bumper .... 120 is fine.

320 ? .... HELL .. I used that WET to do near final prep-work on molds that were in daily production.
