Using a ford 8.8 in an A body? - 03/08/10 09:32 AM
Ok...I know its a ford part...but I have had bad luck with the salvage yards around here...they want 500 plus for an 8.25 and dont even ask about an 8.75 price...but I can get the ranger 8.8 rear end for 75 bucks with either 3.08, 3.27 or 3.55 gears. I am not planning over 300 Horsepower as I want this to be driven often and get somewhat good fuel mileage...the measurement is 51.00" where as the 72 Dart is 51.400"...seems like a perfect fit to me...except for some perches etc..
Question is has anyone else done this?

i dont know anyone who has done it but i dont see any reason why it wouldnt work.
change spring perches, see if you can get an adapter u joint to go from the mopar driveshaft to the ford rear.

No problem. do a search on forAbodiesonly, you will find a lot of info on this swap. I am actually at the first step of this. Today, I just picked up an 8.8 out of a 99 Explorer with limited slip, 4.10 gears, disc brakes, swaybar, and driveshaft for $150.

$500?! Jeez, I wish you were in AZ. I have an A-body 8.25 I'm looking to get rid of for $200....with 3.21 gears. I cant seem to give it away!
