Ohm range for Mopar fuel gauge sending units? - 07/27/08 10:08 PM

I'm looking for an aftermarket fuel level gauge, but I need to know what the ohm range should be for it to work in my '69 Barracuda. Anyone know?

I always thought 5-10 ohms was the low side.

0-2 ohms would certainly explain why my 5V solid state version regulator couldn't supply enough current.

5V/1ohm = 5amps!

Autometer claims 73 ohms empty, 10 ohms full

Moparaction.com might have some more info, but IIRC, then sending units in Mopars for fuel, oil, and temp were supposed to have 10 ohms for top of the scale, and 90 ohms for bottom of the scale.

Others more knowledgeable may chime in.

Keep us posted and pic'd on the Dakota junction box install...

nope, its 10 and 73 ohms. the new fuel sending units they are selling everywhere measure 10 and 90 though....

Yup, Its "10 to 73" but that's not all. The range is not linear across the sweep and the top and botton resistance can cause different results with different gauges. I have a fuel cell with the aftermarket sender (tube type) and it is nowhere near accurate. I'm on my 4th try at geting this thing re-calibrated so that the gauge reads somewhere near how much fuel is actually in the tank.

Well, you could always do it the hard way...

Put a gallon in, mark a line...put a gallon in...mark a line...

Might be long and tedious but durned accurate!

With the linear resistance sender a gallon can sweep the instrument panel gauge almost 1/4 tank!

Just checked the Miller C-3826 gauge checking tool and it's ------
L = 73.7 Ohms
M = 23.0 Ohms
H = 10.2 Ohms

M would be 1/2 a tank of gas.
