1965 Radiator Help

1965 Radiator Help - 02/19/10 07:21 PM

My radiator took a dive in my 1965 440 4spd Belvedere....After looking around the replacement cost between $300-$450....I know I can get an aluminum for around that.....But in the interest of keeping cost down does anyone know of another Make/Model radiator that will fit with little modification that will work with the 440....

Any thoughts or experiences???

I have a 65 C body in mine.Got it and the shroud from a boneyard for 60 bucks.Been in for 10 years and still runs at 180 allday even with a 12.5 comp motor and its nver been touched.Its almost a perfect fit.Just the lower hose sits close to the oil filter so I run the short style filter.My kids 62 300 has almost the exact same rad.We had his recored and its a 3 core.It cost like 250.Rocky

Thanks for the info. What about any newer style crossflow radiators that would fit? I'm gonna hit the boneyard with a tape measure ....just looking for any ideas????

There is a new aluminum style in parts.I think its 275.Looks like oe style and they are supposed to work good.Guy on Ebay sells them also.Cross flows are a tough fit in the early B bodys because every thing is in the way.I had about 5 or 6 early rads in the garage.My kids scrapped them.Man was I POed.I did buy a spare BB one out of my buddys 64 when he went BeCool.That was over a grand for the complete setup.Rocky

Has anyone used one of these aluminum radiators?? It looks like a good deal and I need to make a move....Anyone??

I put in a dual pass rad from 4 seconds flat.
Had it setup like a 26 inch so it is a tight fit, but it works.
Had to move the horns to the outside.
Fits in my 65 coronet.
You could probably order one to fit in the 22 inch space. Doesn't have a cooler for the trans,and both inlet and outlet have to be on the same side.

Ive heard of a few guys that ran the rad in parts 4 sale.Most said they fit good as was the quality.Didnt hear of any heating issues either.Rocky

As an alternate, out of the box idea, the C-Body Dry Dock web site has a tech article on fitting a Ford Explorer radiator into a C-body.

When I went from my poly to a 360 I switched to a new 1974 Dart radiator. Its hoses came out on the correct side for the 360.

I had to slightly trim the lower left slot. It then dropped right in.

I think I got it from the Radiator Barn.

I put this Afco rad in my 63 Sport Fury. It cost $349. as I know its a bit more then you want to spend but it came with brackets on it. You just have to drill the holes in the brackets where it lines up for your car. It has worked great for me and fit right in. Ron

My 1965 Belvedere I came to me with a Griffin Cross Flow Aluminum Radiator from Summit Racing. It cooled the .030 over 440, 12.5 to 1 Wedge engine to 180 degrees during the Summer months here in SW Ohio. Last Summer, I replaced the Wedge with a NEW 472 Hemi and the same Griffin Aluminum Radiator from Summit is still cooling the Hemi to 180 degrees. I have not driven it in the Summer yet, but I assume that it will be fine. I believe that Summit still carries the same or similar Griffin cross flow radiators and their pricing is reasonable.
