identifying a 9.25 sg unit - 02/07/10 09:06 PM
Ok, I have a 9.25 SG unit laying around, an ebay special. anyways, I bought it under the false assumption that all 9.25 rears were the same, not knowing that there was a big change over in 84/85.
is there anyway to tell what the unit is for by measuring, casting #s or ???
thanks in advance for any help....

I tried putting an early 9 1/4 anti-spin case in an 85 9 1/4, and IIRC, the axle slid into side gear fine, but the 85 C clip outer diameter would not drop into recess of side gear. I believe the axle shaft button also was dofferent in thickness. I do not know when actual change was made yearwise.

OK. That all makes sense. I questioned it because I have swapped late ring & pinions into earlier 9 1/4's.

In my case, I ended up selling the no-fit antispin to a freind 10 years later, and installed it too in his lil red truck. Fit perfect.

I modified the c-clips to fit. Just took some off the outside diameter on the new clips. Have not had any troubles with it behind 400hp 360.
