Factory Vinyl Top - 70 Coronet - Stapled to the car??? - 02/07/10 06:08 PM

The only staples were in the corners where it might shrink a bit and pull loose from the adhesive. There were 3 to 5 staples in each corner.

Was that common? Should I look for a heavy duty stapler to do that again or is the adhesive better these days?

Any advice available would be appreciated. Thanks!

With todays adhesive I would not worry about staples..

OK, good advice. I wasn't looking forward to another $60 dollar tool that I'd only use once or twice anyway.

Any suggestions on the best type of adhesive to buy for the top? I've got to get this multi-year project on the road this summer!

I have had good luck with 3m and Dap brand adhesive..

I'm in the process of replacing the top on my '71 Dart. Today I found two staples at each top corner of the rear window, had never heard of that being done. Weird....

My 65 Satellite has staples across both front and rear windows. About 30 of them.

My 68 Coronet had a couple staples in each upper corner of the front and back windows.

Legendary Interiors recommends using 3M Super Trim Adhesive.

12 cans of 3M

Spray top and roof of car

follow directions do not get in hurry, let it get tacky to dry

get it right first time

work in sections
