440 oil pan ??? - 02/01/10 04:38 PM

I need to replace my oil pan and pick up. Pulled a 440 out of a motorhome for my 69 B-body. Are all BB oil pans the same for cars? Can I use a pan off a Fury or New yorker? Of do i need one for a B-body.

Thanks

not sure of the number of the one in the new yorker. There is a new yorker at the local pick and pull and i was going to pull the pan off it and use it if I can. What is the number I am looking for.

As long as it is a center sump pan you should be okay. It may have the number 402 on the bottom of the pan but maybe not.

As said, a 402 will work, it has the windage tray in it but I used a 669 out of a 72 C body that worked in my 72 B body.

The pan for a '69 B-body should be a "402" based on the 440Source oil pan page. Scroll half way down the page to see pics and applications for the different factory pans, along with an application table at the bottom. You can get the year of the junker New Yorker and then you will know what you're working with compared to the 402.

That'll work and might consider welding in a baffle around the perimeter of the sump which if so you'd want to do before you paint it and that'd give you a high perf pan right from the start.

Depending on the year of the New Yorker, if it's a '699' pan it'll probably have a baffle already.

Don't wrecking yards like Pick n Pull usually punch a hole in the pans to drain out the oil? All the pans I have seen there, have been that way.
