Lunati BB hyd lifters - 01/31/10 09:30 AM

Need help to put the lifters togheter again, after cleaning

My set was different assembled ? 60% on way and 40% the other way. Between the plunger and plunger cap is a thin metal (washer)different up and down sides.

What side is toward the plunger cap? is it the side that has a raised center section or the side that has a lowered center section.

Anyone done this and know what is correct?

Peter

Converted,I send a e-mail about 2 months ago concerning the valve springs in the cam kit for a voodoo 60303.

Because of oil-leak my engine is apart. I tested the valve spring in a tester because the camcard say installation height is 1,820"? 120lbs.

Have 4pc 906 heads and they all have a installation height of 1,950".

They tested at 1,950" 75 lbs thats a long way from 120 lbs. Thats way I contacted Lunati tech. and still waiting for an answer, why they sell chevy valvesprings to a mop BB engine.

So thats why I try Moparts.com instead.

Don't buy the cam kit, I'm happy with the camshaft ,but NOT with the lifters and valvesprings.

I have the 60303 cam/lifter kit. I never checked out the lifters before install, nor have I had any problems with them.

I also have the same Cam/Lifters (not springs though), never took the lifters apart, no issues.

I'm with you, I open/inspect/clean/lube EVERYTHING as assembly line workers have off days and it's not like it's their baby their are assembling. Maybe it can go either way but if we dont have an ans for you dont move until you find out.

Snoopy
Thank you for calling the tech at Lunati for me.
Still no e-mail from them?

If I got it right , pic2 correct.

Means the lowered side up against the plunger cap and the raised side towards the plunger.

That's what the Tech at Lunati stated. I would resend your original e-mail to Lunati. They said they only received 1 picture.
Make sure you send it to the e-mail address I sent you, he is the Tech I talked to and he actually took the time to tear apart one of the lifters. So he is up to speed on your question.

Re: Lunati BB hyd lifters - 02/03/10 08:59 PM

My only problem with his answer is that he used a lifter pulled from stock for his subject. If there is still a problem with 40% or 60% of the lifters being assembled wrong, then the only way to be sure of the correct assembly procedure would be the engineering drawing. I asked about a drawing when I talked to the Tech and was told that they didn't have one. So it appears that they don't make the lifters. I would try to find out who makes the lifters and contact them for the proper positioning of the metering plate. That's the only way you are going to be sure that the information you seek is accurate.

Received a e-mail from lunati Tech(from the e-mail address I got from snoopy) He tells the washer/metering plate should have the RAISED CENTER towards the plunger cap. (pic 1)

This is the way about 60% was assembled.
Going to contact them again for more info.

No expert here but by the looks of the design they should work just fine either direction. I've been really happy with my Lunati cam kit.

I'd suggest changing the other 40% over per the Lunati tech's instructions & call it good. But I am a firm believe in taking apart/inspecting every part (within reason) including lifters especially in this situation since since the assembly line worker was obviously having a problem of some sort on the day he assembled this batch of lifters. Take each one apart, inspect them, switch the 40%, reassemble & you're ready to move onto the next issue when it transpires and it will .

Re: Lunati BB hyd lifters - 02/05/10 06:41 PM

From Lunati tech

If you remove the pushrod seat and look inside the lifter the washer should
Look like it is does in picture #2 with the raised side up towards the
pushrod cup.

He took one set apart 16 pc and all were the same.

So I put the washer/metering plate as above.

See attached pic. Thanks all for your inputs.
