Conversion:318/904 to 340/727 - 01/04/10 06:48 PM
I do not have a flex plate or torque converter for the 340/727.
Will the ones from the 318/904 work? (This is a fairly mild 340 build.)
Oh, and what about the trans shifter linkages, are they the same?

Driver's side block mounting lugs are a bit closer together on a 340 but they can be adapted to the 318 bracket with either a spacer or washers.

Why not just use the 904 and existing parts and you have a bolt in assembly? The 904 will easily handle most street driven 340's.

Now that's a thought. I have a rebuilt 727, I guess I could just refresh the 904, it was working fine other than the typical leak(s).
Then, if I wanted, I could put in the 8 3/4 rear and the 727 at the same time.
It's for a 70 Barracuda, I guess I just always had it in my mind that the 727 and 8 3/4 was the way to go for the higher performance applications.
Say, doesn't the 904 have a shorter 1st gear ratio also?
yes it does...takes less HP to turn the 904 also
wouldnt use a lopo lock up 904 for a performance rig though
A999 from a truck/van/cop car/5th ave would be a heavy duty unit
