timing problem - 07/19/08 12:05 AM

Finally gonna address a problem that I've had with my 71 Charger R/T for a long time. The car has the original 71 HP 440 with a Mopar Performance distributor, orange box ECU, a 750 Holly 4BBL carb, and a slight bump cam. No matter how hard I try, the car runs like crap if I put any vacuum to the distributor (no matter where I connect it from). It run fairly well with the vac totally disconnected from the distributor. No manual adjustment in the position of the distributor is tolerated or it runs like crap again. It's a one position deal with this distributor. Got any suggestions?

Start at square one- Make sure that the rotor is pointing at the cap terminal with the number one plug wire with the number one piston at TDC compression. Make sure that all the plug wires are going to the correct plugs.

hi
where is your timing set to ?

with that dist you should set it at 6 deg adv at slow idle .

if it does not run properly there you will have to have it recurved .
