Spark plug gap for a 1970 383 4bbl??? - 07/18/08 01:49 AM

Hey everybody,
My bonehead question for the day: anybody know what gap to run on spark plugs for a 1970 383 4bbl? Do the new plugs come pre-gapped out of the box?
Thanks in advance!

They should be 035 out-of-the-box.

Never, never trust that they are correct out of the box. Always check.

Of COURSE check them ... but the last 5 or 6 sets of plugs I have put in cars have been dead-on.

I'm getting old. As such, I've seen a few things.

DO NOT EVER 'not' gap your plugs.

You might try .040". the stock ign can handle the increase in required voltage to jump this slightly larger gap & it gives a bigger spark "kernel" to light the mixture.
