1406 edelbrock carb, my choke wire fell off, the red one, does it go on the pos. side of the coil?? My engine has been cutting out, may be choke related, the wire fell off.........any help is good........also the coil i had was not labeled pos or neg i tested it when i hooked it up....where does the brown wire go? its in a 73 challenger....Mike

I like to splice into the field wire of the alternator. I would not recommend the coil wire as a place to hook up.

A '73 has two field wires, be sure to use the blue one not the green one; the double blue wire on the ballast is the same circuit.

73 Already has a wire for the choke. 73 is when they stsrted with electric assisted choke systems.

Use the blue wire coming off the ballast resistor. It should have hot power when the ignition switch is in the start and run position.

He should not have to do anything the factory choke wire should be there.

True, provided it has not been cut off or removed.

The brown wire is the positive (+) power for the coil.

thanks guys i think the problem may be a broken valve spring after all...the choke wiring issues...the blue wire has been cut/played with by someone the little plastic bo where the wires stem from is a mess...needless to say i think its time to pull the motor and give it a new paint job anyway...

The factory set up used a timer so the choke only has power when it is cold, since it still had ahot air feed from the intake.
You would need to use the hot feed to the timer not the output side of it.

I looked into it more today and checked the valve springs.....they are fine...may be a valve problem....it cuts out and runs like total junk at a higher rpm.....has a miss then dies altogether....I am yankin the engine out anyway cause I wanna do some things.....forged internals and what not....the choke wiring has the positive red wire and i dont know where it went, there is a choke relay under the coil....there??? or somehwere else?? the dark blue wire i see on the ballast but thats the only place....it must be a diff color at the connection point where all the wires meet in the plastic block....i will post pics when i get the engine back in and I am ready to wire it up....thanks for the help guys... Mike this job is
