Eddy Thunder AVS

Eddy Thunder AVS - 11/21/09 02:19 AM

I'm switching my 67 Chrysler 300 from dual quads to a single quad. Right now it has a single plane dual quad intake and an Eddy Performer front carb (primary...and 600 CFM) and a Carter rear carb (secondary and not sure of the CFM rating). I figure the Carter is somewhere in the 600 CFM range too...That's a total of around 1,200 CFM of carburetion.

Anyway, for a variety of reasons. the dual quad set-up is a pain...I finally decided to make the switch to a single big carb...I've got most of the parts already but I'm worried I may have gotten TOOO much of a carb.

Ready to install:
Eddy Performer dual plane intake
Eddy Thunder 800 CFM carb with electric choke

My car is a 67 300 with a pretty much stock 440 Hi Po engine and TTI 21/2" exhaust with H pipe.

IS 800 CFM too much carb for this set up?? My reasoning for getting the 800 CFM Thunder was that it is supposedly Not an emission carb like my 600 CFM Performer is AND with dual quads, 1,200 CFM is available with both carbs open.

800 Thunder will be fine on a street 440

Thanks for that re-assurance!! My FSM says that the 67 440 Hi Po engine came with a 750 CFM Carter AFB....so I thought 800 wouldn't be too far off.

contrary to popular belief, 2 "600's" dont equal 1200 CFM. The motor would never pull 1200 as it cant produce enough vacuum to do that. They measure CFM rating with say 1.5 in pressure drop. that motor would never be able to pull that much vacuum over 8 bbl's...Its in Vizards book on Carbs, and he is pretty much a Guru on Carbs. The AVS concept is nice as it only draws enough air as your motor demands at a constant workeable velocity. Something a wide open double pumper cant.
