What cam for this combo of 440

What cam for this combo of 440 - 11/04/09 11:12 PM

I am rebuilding a 440 0.030 over that was rebuilt 20 years ago ( has been sitting most of the time since), I am looking for as much torque as possible for the street, what I have and want to use is the following as this is a tight budget project.

11.5:1 dome MP pistons
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Stealth Alu head (440 source)
Harland Sharp Roller rockers
Hooker headers 1 7/8"

I would like to run a hyd cam (non roller) to gain as much torque as possible. Rev probaly at 5500 top.

Any suggestions what cam would work best for this combo ??

Lunati 605. I'd go with 2 inch Hookers

Watch out with those dome pistons, will they fit with closed chambered heads?

For good torq, I'd recommend the lunati voodoo 60303, but 11.5 would be a bit too high of compression for that cam on pump gas.

As I understand the Stealth heads are supposed to have 85cc chamber vol according to 440source.com and I have read somewhere that alu heads consump 1 compression so I would be looking at actual 10.5:1, does this make sense?

That's a rule of thumb... Not sure what you have for pump gas there???(R+M/2) even 10.5 with aluminum heads could be dicey unless proper qunech/squish.

I'm a big fan of the Lunati Voodoo cams (well designed with the 904 lifter bores.) I'd look at the 60304

Check out the Hughes engines grinds or the comp XE hi lift series.

After you finalize your cam selection I'd find what the max dynamic compression ratio is for your intended octane, mill/deck for .040" quench (in every hole)/and for the static CR to get that DCR

You have bigger compression so that Lunati 60305 would be a good choice. I also like the mopar 509 P4120237 cam and you have the compression to carry it make sure it is degreed 105 to 106 and it really kicks butt!!!

What is the rest of the set up? a lot depnds on your gear and stall. Not much sense getting a big 600 lift cam if you want to shift at 5500. I'd say stick with a cam that is around 230 @ .050 and a lift of 520 or so. Maybe with a 112 centerline.
