Chrysler has stopped making ATF+3 and now makes ATF+4 but honestly i think there is no reason not to use it. Its a synthetic tranny fluid .

I won't use it in my 2000 Ram so I can't think of any reason to use it , or the +4 in an older trans .

I ran ATF+3, then +4 in an 87 d150 for the duration of it's life. Lockup 904; key word being lockup No trouble ever. Too bad cab rusted off it.

I just added 1.5 quarts of the ATF+4 to my low mileage all original Superbee and drove 1100 miles round trip from Knoxville, TN to St Louis, MO for Monster Mopar Weekend and had the following tranny troubles:
1. Zero
2. Zilch
3. None

Good to go by my account!

The newer fluids are backwards compatible with a few exceptions, even Ma Mopar says so.

I just read that , looks like yet another MONEY GRAB by the Chrysler LICENSING STRONGARM division ...

Quote:

Manufacturers can make ATF+4 fluids, but to use the trademarked ATF+4 name in their compatibility list, they must have their fluids tested and licensed by Chrysler engineers, and must use Lubrizol in their formulations.
