PB vs. MB Brake Pedal Pivot Points?

PB vs. MB Brake Pedal Pivot Points? - 08/30/09 04:56 AM

73 Duster PDB car.

I have always HATED power brakes and since the engine is out of the car, swapping to MDB now makes sense.

So...

On the pedal assembly on later A Bodies was there a different ratio/pivot point between the PDB/MDB pedals?

Thanks!

Not sure but it may be a different pivot. My uncle had a charger converted from manual brakes to power back in the late 70's and I'm guessing nobody knew about a potential pedal difference. My dad drove the car and just about threw himself out the front windshield when he pushed the brake pedal in 1".

That's why I ask Sorta like discovering reverse thread lugs at 16. If decades of other people have found out the hard way over the years, I would hate to join the same club 36 years later.

pedal is the same PB has a bellcrank, and that accounts for the different mounting location of the master's centerline. Need the manual brake mounting/reinforcement plate and pushrod. Make sure the master has a provision (internal step in the outer piston bore) for the pushrod retainer.

And 7/8ths rear wheel cylinders too, right?

Is there a part # for that retainer, I am imagining a reman master cyl will not have it included in the box.

1) Will swapping to a modern 2 bolt m/c and using the 4/2 adapter take the place of the factory plate?

2) Do I want the 1-1/32 or the 15/16 for manual discs?

You'll see the PB bell crank mounted to the pedal arm. Remove it and use the same hole in the brake pedal arm for the new push rod. As stated you have to have the manual brake firewall reinforcement plate and be very sure the push rod cannot fall out or be easily pulled out of the MC. There is a grommet that "locks" the push rod into the MC piston hole.
