Weight difference: Hemi+Dana vs. 440+ 8 3/4 ??? - 08/26/09 06:06 AM

Hello,

This is my first posting here. Looking forward to this great board!

Where can I find exact weights for following drivetrains:

- 426 Hemi and TF727 and Dana
- 440 Magnum and TF727 and 8 3/4

Even links to separate weights is very much appreciated.

Thanks for links/info !

A dana is about 50 to 80 lb more than a 8 3/4 (some say 110??) and a hemi is about 30 lb heavier than a 440

My 8 3/4 to Dana conversion added 36lbs total. Comparing Sure Grip to Sure Grip. Both housings were narrowed a few inches, and the 8 3/4 had a billet aluminum yoke. But I'd say 35-40 lbs would be a good range. Same brakes in my case.

My old '69 383 4spd Roadrunner weighed 3600 with me in it. My '68 Hemi 4 spd GTX weighed 3900 with me in it. Dave

A dana weighs 50 lbs more than an 8 3/4 on a scale. A 426 hemi with iron heads weighs about 100 lbs more than an iron 440.
