70 challenger carbon fiber dash - 08/20/09 10:17 PM
Has anyone tried one the carbon fiber dash resurfacing kits on ebay? The sellers user name is "customgauges". I installed carbon fiber pistol grips in my challenger from gunslinger and they look awesome. Now thinking of the dash and door panel inserts to bring it all together. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks, Dan

I couldn't figure out how to search for a seller?

I would be a little leary of the overlays. I bought 1 of the woodgrain kits from another vendor.
Started bubbling after 3-4 months, I don't think the adhesive they use for these type of kits are really designed to take the automotive heat.

I am a little leary, but my woodgrain looks like crap anyway. Just thought if I could find some feedback on the carbon fiber I would give it a shot. Like I said, the carbon fiber grips look awesome on the shifter!

Have you ever heard of water transfer printing?
This process uses a water based paint that is
dipped into print that is floating on water. Excellent
results can be had and the look is far better than
an overlay. I'll post a link to a website soon.

I purchased the carbon fiber kit from 71T/A - Detroit Muscle probably 2 years ago and have not installed it yet. I did not get the console plate as I don't have a console, but it seems like it was a lot less than $100. He included a razor blade, plastic squeegee, etc. for installation. Nice kit, but I can't speak to how it works just yet...

I will have to look into his kit, hopefully still around. Does he have a website?

I did the door panel and console with a parts store CF roll for less than 15 bucks.

looks nice! I bet it would be tough to cut out for the dash, but is an option. Thanks for the picture.

Nice, how long has it been on? Any peeling/lifting around the edges?
What brand, where did you get it?

Been on 2 years no lifting at all. I bought a roll of generic CF sticker paper(PEP BOYS) and used a razor, pretty easy. The hardest part was getting the woodgrain off.

No, I think the black and silver is good enough for me.

Here is a picture of mine mocked up. I still need to attach the backing plate to the polished aluminum and paint the plastic pieces that go over the gauges and switch panel. The polished areas inside the gauge faces are normally painted black, but I liked the polished look better. I screwed up the paint on the switch panel aluminum so it is not there in this pic but you can get the general idea.

The website for the water transfer printing is
www.eaglecustomgraphics.comShawn is really picky on how his stuff comes out of the tank. I'll post photos of my chin spoilers that he did in a real dark diamond plate pattern when I get them back.

That water transfer printing looks awesome. Thanks for the link! Prices seem reasonable also. Might be the way to go for me.
