15 X 4 wheels - 08/09/09 12:49 PM

Hi all!

I've heard that Cordobas and some other cars came w/ a 4" wide fifteen inch 'space saver' spare.

I was thinking of getting a pair of these for the front of my truck to mount some little early Beetle type tires on; anyone know what years and models these rims came on?

Thanks!

Vintage International pickup trucks have a 15x4 and they accept the small dog dish hub caps also.

So, does anybody have any idea what years I'd look for if I go junkyard scrounging. I'm kinda' trying to keep this on the 'down low' dollar wise.

BTTT...

Studebakers have 15x4 wheels also.Go to a Stude site, you'll find plenty as they are always after the wider Mopar wheels.

I *think* the space saver spare tire coam into use on Late Bs in '77, but it might've been earlier. I would think some J-bodies would have 15" SS spares, too.

Some early Dakotas had a 15x4 as a spare.

Not sure about the 15x4 rims but those tires are going to be too short to use on a truck. They will look silly. You can get away w/ them on an A-body. I use 205/75/15's on my 15x4 fronts.

i have a buddy at work that has a couple of studabaker trucks i asked him about if he had any extra wheels knowing im a mopar guy he asked why i wanted some?? i want a pair to put on the front of my 69 coronet he kinda looked at me funny and said its got a chevy bolt pattern he said he pulled a wheel off one of his old chevys to put on the truck to move it around
so is there a differnt bolt pattern from a stud car and truck??

41/2 wide to be exact IM running them on my 62 dart and they have the large poverty cap diamiter, these were usually on early 60,s cars.

I used to run those rims and have sold many sets. They were common on temporary spares in 1981 and up Cordoba, Mirada, 5th Aves, Diplomats, etc. thru 1985 or so.

I used to install the spares on the assembly line and got that idea. They don't take dog dish caps. In the last few years street rodders have been buying them from me for various reasons. AMC cars also had their version of these rims.

I have one set left that I am keeping. I sold sets 2 for $50. The hard part is getting the temporary tire off the rim.
