360 Magnum Swap Part 2. Thermostat Housing?

360 Magnum Swap Part 2. Thermostat Housing? - 08/07/09 06:18 AM

So when I was trying swap the chrome O-ring thermostat housing from the Edelbrock Performer to my 360 Magnum's RPM Air Gap I realized the LA water neck is way bigger that the one for my Magnum.

The stock one for truck radiators is way taller than I want to use.

10 minutes at the parts counter looking at ALL the Dodge Magnum factory units and all the SB Ford (The same bolt spacing/size as the Magnum) aftermakret chrome and factory units and I can not find one that will work with the stock 26" radiator.

What did you do?

The stamped steel unit?

What radiator hose did you use? Based on a "precise eyeballing" it looks like an earlier molded hose has the bend too far down to use one.

grab one from a junkyard 5th ave. chrysler switched to the smaller t-stat and housing when they went to the C171 A/C compressor in the '79-80 time frame.

Cameron, I used stock radiator hoses from a 74 Duster 360. Each have a couple letters on it - places to cut the hose. I ended up just cutting the hose in one place on each.

1979 to be exact. Any AutoZone should have a cast iron one for about $10-12. Much better than the stamped steel piece anyway.

It doesn't look too bad, the stamped steel one, does it?
