Wheels & tires for my 1969 Road Runner - suggestions? - 08/03/09 09:48 AM

Ok, here are some particulars:

~ 1969 Road Runner...
~ 440, mild build - street cruiser, not for racing...
~ 4-speed manual, 18-Spline trans...
~ Stock suspension, front & rear sway bars added...
~ Stock wheel housings...
~ 3:54 Dana rear

I want to use a set of the Ford "Bullet" wheels:

So - what size wheels would be recommended, and what size tires to go with...? Note: I'm not looking for the rubber band look here - just some old school proportions...

Many thanks for the input,

- Alan

Alan,

The tried and true combo for 69 b-body seems to be 15x8 with 4.5 inch backspacing running 275/60/15 in the rear. The front can vary. A popluar choice would be 15x6/3.75bs or 15x7/4.0bs and 235/60/15. I wanted a little skinnier look up front so I went with 215/70/15 on 15x6/3.75bs.

I went with the new Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T Radials and liked how the turned out.

Here is one idea. A friend of mine put 18's on
the back and 17's up front on his 68. I'm unsure of the
make , but I can ask

My other buddy put Weld draglites on because he
got a super deal on them. His 68 is an all
original 383 4 speed car.
