Which one of these should I use on my 70 Cuda Grill?? - 07/23/09 11:54 PM

Looking for opinions, on which one of these textured argents I should use on my 70 Cuda Grill? I really don't want to hear that none are exactly correct. Which one is closest?

Thanks

I second the second one. Honorable mention for number 3. Don't like 1 or 4

I used Totally Auto's medium (or is it dark???) Argent on mine and its gorgeous.

This question will never be answered. The guy from all trim had a pallette @ Carlisle a few years back with numerous color chips on it. Which is correct???

I second that.

BTW, I love the signature pic of your red Cuda.

Second from the left is closest (but... none look 100% IMO )

Thanks for the input.

Well, these are all spray bomb, and I am looking for the poor man's argent for my grill. I kind of like the 2nd one the best.

The colors are:
#1 Krylon Black Textured shimmer #2520
#2 Krylon graphite Textured shimmer #2521
#3 Krylon Silver Textured shimmer #2522
#4 Eastwoods Light Argent textured #12717 Z

I wish I had a sample of the Totally Auto paint to stick next to them to compare, but I have less invested in all of these, (I got the Eastwood paint free at the Nats last year) than the Totally Auto would charge for one can.

Hopefully this will help out some others by giving them a comparison on the different paints available.

This is the best pic I have of my un-restored grill. I'd go with #2 ( second from the left)

I've heard the Krylon colors are an exact match with the Totally Auto colors.....

Where did you get the Krylon paint? All of the stores I've gone to that carry Krylon don't have the graphite.

The local "Good" home town hardware store, it's a TrueValue chain, had all three colors. You can order it online at www.doitbest.com and have it shipped to a local store.

KudaKidd - It looks like #2 would be a good match.

Thanks.

Are these rattle cans or actual A/B mix in pints and quarts that require an HVLP. I need to repaint my 69 Grill and really like the the far right swatch

The one on the far right is the closest match to the rear finish panel of my 68 ply gtx. I have seen a lot of them refinished with the darker argent color and they are not correct. Mine is an untouched factory original piece so I know it is correct.

These are all Rattle can spray paint. I just used the Graphite #2521 on my grille, and it looks pretty good. I'll post a few pics when I get it back together.

Call totally auto. They'll give you the color closest to orignal. You get what you pay for. The cheap paint may look good for a while but will not last. The spray bomb from totally auto is pro grade PPG paint. There argents are beautiful and cover very well. They will out last any cheap Home depot spray bomb

Hre's my grill. I think it turned out pretty good. Now I just need to get it installed this week so I can go to the Nats.

PS. I'll let you know when my cheap paint wears out. Since the car is not daily driven, I'm guessing it will be a while........

Re: Which one of these should I use on my 70 Cuda Grill?? - 08/27/09 07:00 PM

I finally found the graphite at K-Mart. The cap has kind of a gloss to it, did your grill have a little gloss once painted? I'm guessing you can hold the can a little away from the grill and "fog" it to knock the gloss off. Also, how much paint did it take to do your grill? I've used some of their other textured paint and a can didn't go far at all. I got 2 cans....will that be enough?

Didn't seem too glossy to me. I used one can and had plenty left over.
