Shorty headers for 74 Scamp w/360 auto. - 07/23/09 04:48 PM

I've been looking, but have not yet been able to find any affordable (cheap?) shorty headers. I have a set of Heddman, full lenght tube headers now, but would prefer shorties. Anyone know?

Well, I see Mancini has Hedman shorty style headers. Anyone ever used these or know anything about them?

Thanks,
Dave

spitfires would work, they are made for early a's but will fit.

Ground clearance. That's all. And ease of install.

then goto TTI, or spitfires...

I had one of the first sets that Harold made. Is he still in business?

yes

but tti's would give you the clearance, and ease of install your looking for, in a long tube header.

Can I just Google Spitfire Headers and find them? Is it still recommended to order them COD rather than cash up front?

dougs or tti's will do what you want and being long tube may give you a little more performance.

yes harold is still around. order them COD. there have been quite a few guys at FABO that ordered and recieved them with no issues. he makes them in batches from what i understand so you may have to wait till he gets a certian amount of orders before he makes yours.

the last contact info i have for him.

Thanks for the info. I tried to send an e-mail, but it bounced back. I'll check out Doug's and TTI, but I'm really not looking to spend that much money. I know, you get whatyou pay for.

Dave avoid ALL the header issues and go with the 68-70 340 manifolds. They will never let you down. :)

Headman shorties work with the best clearance, and fit. the drivers side will be a tight mate to the exhaust pipe. Awesome performance and torque gain over stock log. TTI may have a neat fit, but its a hastle. the Headmen shorties have spark plugs above the header! primaries for easy access...

BB-
Schumacher makes a excellent no hastle shorty 440 header. TTI did NOT have a good fit with my 440 set up and the 4 speed.

Do/have you run small block Hedman shorties in an a-body??

Someone here did and had some fitting issues. It was an early set I think.

Hedman shorties ARE NOT A SIMPLE BOLT ON/BOLT IN for an A body!!!! The only shorty pure drop in headers are the Schumachers.

That would be a good way for me since the build is more for torque and "stop light bandit" power than all out HP. Finding some that are affordable (I may not keep this car after I get it running) is another problem.

They make them for SB? I've seen for BB.

Schumachers was refering to my project using a 440" w/ shorties. They are drop ins with a 4 spd. Don't make sml blk shorties.

Hedman's 360 sml blk needed no lifting of the engine to mount. The hedmen small block shorties, can be filed under pretty easy. Driver's side?

What was the problem?

I have full lengths on their now. Over the shorties, I really didn't build it enough to take full advantage of them. I can say there is no perciveable difference between full lenth and shorties in my 323".
