I dont think so..I have seen them hanging from the wires swinging, laying on the intake getting heat, side ways on the fire wall, and sitting straight up,on junk over the yrs

mopar did mount them sideways and straight up

all I can say is try it and see

results could vary

There was a thread awhile back about oil filled vs epoxy filled coils & iirc that any position was OK if epoxy but OF ones lasted longer in a certain position, dont remember what though.

The Oil filled can/might leak if not mounted in the vertical position.

Almost all coils were oil filled before epoxy existed and 90% were not mounted vertical.Eventually some leak but nothing lasts forever.

IIRC, the original coil on my old 66 Dart was mounted on it's side. But then, the Dart was old, and so am I, so I can't be held accountable

Check out all the old VW Beetles and you will see that the coils were mounted upside down. I never heard of any problems with them.

I've got a car where it was mounted on the firewall but the coil wire hits the hood when closed so when I mount it upside down everything fits better. Just never thought about the coil being upside down to be a problem until I did it. It seems OK. Thanks!

I guess the best thing to say is when you are able to mount the coil vertical do it but for the must part you will be fine if you don't.
