Valve cover shorts to alt/ car won't start

Adjusting valve lash on 69 426, and I'd left key on from bumping engine around. Little spark from valve cover touching back of alternator and now car won't start. Replaced ballast resistor, no help. Car has pertronix, otherwise stock. any guesses as to what I screwed up this time? Seems like gauges may not be moving, gas gauge is stuck at 1/8 and doesn't drop when key is off but maybe thats normal, thats about how much it was showing before. Thanks Greg

Thanks, just found it, plug beside valve cover had pulled apart, lost voltage to the coil, Thanks Greg
