edelbrock shocks? - 06/20/08 01:14 AM
Hello, have any of you tried the edelbrock shocks? What do you think of them? I need a new set after upgrading and rebuilding my front suspension and haven't heard much about the edelbrocks. This will be on a street driven 70 challenger with 1 inch TBs. Thanks in advance

I like em in my 69 Dart. I wanted a shock that would perform as good or a bit better than the KYBs but not break the bank.

i put a set on my '69 coronet r/t. they lasted 25 miles. i made edelbrock take them back. i don't know if i got bad set or what. they were so ridgid the car was terrible to drive. believe it or not, they had so much gas pressure they raised the back of the car an inch or so. the top isolators on the front shocks splattered like busted tomatoes after 25 miles. you'll probably get differing opinions on this, unfortunately my opinion is negative.

Wow, wish I had this advise when I bought mine for my Dakota. Getting ready to go back to stock shocks. Edelbrocks are way too stiff and noisy. Might be great for off roading, but they suck on the street.

No problem. I made the clarification because, perhaps, not work well in a truck but work well in a car.

That was the question I had... are the bad experiences a truck thing, a car thing, an early production thing, or some combo thereof? The number of positive experiences I've heard outweigh the negatives, enough that I bought some for my Sport Fury. Still haven't installed them, so I can't say how they behave or how long they'll last. I will say that while shopping for shocks a few years back, I REALLY wanted to get rid of my KYB's, and Edelbrock tech said they could control a spring that was up to 2x the stock spring rate. That kept me from using them on my Valiant which has t-bars about 3x stock.
So, folks with real experience, can you state your application, and when you got the shocks?

I have had the IAS shocks on my car for a little over a year now and put a couple thousand miles on them. In my opinion they ride very nice and are not harsh at all. I have got comments from several freinds that the car handles and rides very nice. Its a 3700lb car with 1" torsion bars and polly bushings, the rear leafs are stock heavy duty with an extra main leaf added.

I have them in my 68 Barracuda and am happy with them. They are firm, but not harsh. I have the old MP .920" t-bars in front and some old JC Whitney 5 leafs in back. IIRC the leafs are aprox 100 lbs/in at the leaf- not wheel rate. HTH, Steve

I have the same set up as busfixer on my 71 Duster and am very happy with the Edelbbrocks up front. I have Ranchos on the back because they were free but will get Edelbrocks for the rear when the Ranchos give up.
