Aluminum Rads - 05/24/09 02:27 AM

Looking for an aluminum rad for my 340 cuda. My new stroker should make 500-550 HP and the stock rad was 22". I like the mancini downdraft versions that accept the stock shroud but the price makes me pucker... Any other companies out there with a quality unit (preferably downdraft) and also will I be OK with a 22" rad with the HP I'll be making? It is a manual trans car.

Not a downdraft, but I'm very happy with the Summit radiator in my '67 Satellite. Not exactly sure what I missed out on by not spending more money, but this thing fit the 22" opening like a glove, and seems to work great. Coulda' spent more, but don't know why.

I originally went with a smaller side tank aluminum rad with my 408 - making about the same HP as yours. It wasn't enough rad. Ended up going with the Mancini down draft and my over heat problem went away.. Agree, it's a lot of bucks.

I've got a cross flow AFCO rad in my sig car cooling my 440. Temp gauge never drifts over operating temp. Fit my stock 22" opening well.
