Manual Brake Adjustable Pushrod - 02/11/24 07:37 PM

Changing my 70 RR from power disc to Manual Disc. I have the Mancini adjustable pushrod. What length is everyone starting with?

That depends on MS, Booster, etc. Start with it tight enough to not fall out and then adjust for pedal travel/feel

He's going from power to manual, no booster.

Can't help on the length question, while all my rides are manual brake, none of them are B bodies.

Adjust the rod till the pedal is all the way up. Tighten the locknut. Done.

Check factory manual pushrod lengths on Brewer's website to get an initial length:

up iagree And do be aware you need ~.030 clearance between the Push rod and M/C piston when the pedal is all the way up beer

All the manual MC pushrods I've ever seen have that goofy little rubber/plastic retainer on the end of the pushrod that retains it in the MC. There is no adjustment possible.

I'm gonna guess that you initially do the install and adjustment without the rubber retainer. Then remove the master, install the retainer and bolt up the master again. But I'm just guessin' !!

What I wanna know is what sort of feeler gauge you use to measure that clearance and where? Seems to me .030 at the rod end should equal X" of play at the pedal.

iagree have you mocked it up yet? I’m not 100% on the brand I got, but it was way too long, would have to cut off a good amount of the threaded part. I ended up using my stock 4 manual drum pushrod, the pedal is a little bit too high from ideal but it’s worked good for 12 years

the problem arises with the age of the cars, potential swapping of parts, our lovely one size fits all corporate America mindset and overseas manufacturing tolerances wink

on a power brake vehicle a tool such as this is used LINKY other ceaper versions are availabble.
On a manual brake car, removing the pushrod bolt from the pedal to make sure the pushrod is a tad shorter than the pedal when it just touches the stop will work best. one can also try unbolting the master from the firewall or check that the pedal is not buried against the stop beer

I’ll start at 6.75 (Found on another site) and go from there. I’ll let you all know how it went.

Thanks!
