California Cover. Get the one rated for best impact protection. It won’t stop much but does help based on what I’ve seen it take.

Re: Car cover recomendations - 01/11/24 07:46 PM

Some car covers shed when they get older. Looks like dust, but it's actually the cover itself. A family member has one like this that still looks fine, but it's way up there in years. When you shake it fine fabric particles fly off it like dandruff on steroids. It's annoying, but it blows off when you drive the car.

If you have a cover that you are sure is letting dust thru then put thin plastic sheeting over top of it.

Agreed, but better yet, get one of those self-supporting or inflatable clear car capsules that you drive into.

Certainly more these days, but not bad compared to a quality detail, cut & buff or a paint job. I usually just blow the dust off with a leaf blower and wipe it down with a micro-fiber and detail spray. I've found taking on and off indoor car covers causes more paint damage than they prevent in most cases.

Re: Car cover recomendations - 01/11/24 11:00 PM

I have a decent cover for my car. And to be honest, Unless I know its going to be parked for more than a few weeks. I dont bother covering it. Im not so sure it would keep it any cleaner anyway.

Its black so dusty is a normal thing for me. I back it out and blow it off with an air hose

BUT, I dont have to park mine for the winter either. It gets driven year round.

if I happen to be working in the garage on one thing or another,,,,. I'll back it outside and pull it back in when Im done.
It usually strikes up a conversation with the amazon driver when they are here.

I mainly use my covers for more than just keeping dust off of the cars, but I do alot of welding, grinding, fabricating and painting and aerosols in my garage. The covers help keeping any welding or grinding sparks off of the cars.

Anyone try or get a Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories cover lately? I used to get all of my covers from them (BHMA) way back in the late '70's and then they went away ?? shruggy Don't know what happened but the California Car Covers came about and started using them. A couple of weeks ago I did a search for BHMA and they are back and the covers look really like I remember them. Probably made by CCC but don't know that for sure?

Both of those company started from the first one because the sane two guys, NHRA SS Hemi racer were in partners on the Beverly Hills company and then split up. Evidently the other owner closed up or didn't pursue advertizing and growing that company.
Maybe someone bought it or maybe another family member is running it now wanting to make it bigger through more sales shruggy work
I don't know about any of this, no insider information on my part, just pure conjecture shruggy realcrazy grin

Re: Car cover recomendations - 01/12/24 04:34 PM

I have a 2008 D3500 that has sat outside since new and I have always kept a cover on it.

The first three were California Car Covers made by Covercraft here in Oklahoma. I had warranty claims on all of them. Sometimes they just sent me a new cover another I had to return to be repaired. The problem has always been the stitching around the west facing windshield seams would fail.

When the last one failed I talked to Covercraft directly and once they found out I was a California Car Cover customer they were very reluctant to work with me. However they had a sale that was not matched by California Car Cover and I got one from them.

However if I had it to do over again I would probably get one from CarCovers.com. Much less expensive and they offer some covers with lifetime guarantees. I did have a cover from them that I got as a gift for my son-in-law, there was a problem with the lining and they warrantied it with out an issue and there were no problem with the replacement.

BHMA has been gone for decades. Grew up about mile away if that. Would go to their "garage sales".

Wish somebody still made the cotton covers without elastic, for garage use - mine are probably 40 years old and getting pretty thin.
They still do the job, though.

BHMA makes an indoor cover but it appears to have elastic? Maybe give them a call and see if you can get one without elastic, I mean they do claim to make "custom" covers. wink Also the "custom" covers are not refundable so there's a good chance they would make it because of that disclaimer. You pay for it up front and it's YOURS grin

Re: Car cover recomendations - 01/13/24 03:41 PM

The "stretchable fabric" is a non-starter for me; perfect for abrading any dust or whatever into the corners and/or contours of the car.

My old cotton covers merely drape over the cars, and have never left a mark on them.
