Dakota Digital 71 RR Who has use one? - 08/29/23 07:05 PM

So, I was intending to send my 71 Roadrunner cluster in and have it converted to work with a GenIII Hemi but my garage burned down with all of my parts in it. I bought a parts car that doesn't have the right cluster but as I begin searching for a cluster I find this:

Dakota Digital 1971-74 B-Body Rallye Retrotech Analog Gauge System RTX-71D-CHG-X.

It looks to be a modern direct replacement kit. If you have used this kit, I would sure like to have some dialogue with you. Pics showing final installations would be great as would input regarding the installation process.

Thanks in advance!

Good evening! First, sorry about your garage fire! I can't imagine how that makes you feel. I installed a Dakota Digital in my '70 Challenger. Slightly different that your '71 B body. I looked at the instructions for your dash kit and it is pretty close to my install. It is very easy if you have any electrical/mechanical ability. I gutted my original AM radio and put the control box inside so it is hidden. All the other wiring is easy. I love the way mine looks and works. I'm sure you'll love it. The one you are looking at does have more features than the one I installed, mine is the VHX model. If I can help in any way, let me know. Take care, Jeff

Can’t comment on the 71 but used a Dakota Digital in my 69 Super Beez. Easy install looked great in the car and worked flawlessly. I have used Dakota Digital on several builds and have never had an issue. My 55 Dodge pickup has a Dakota Digital in it. That install was in 2013 and has over 65,000 miles on it. Never had a problem. Go for it you won’t be disappointed.

Dakota Digitals gauges have a lifetime warranty too.

Here is an earlier RR with the Dakota gauge setup. It works really nice and even interfaces with his EFI system.

That does look good!
You eliminate the factory light bar bulbs?

I would be surprised how many people would respond, I machined the 1st run of the gauges and it didn't amount to a very big run. I don't think we have done another run, we base our runs on number of units sold.

I can switch the std light bar off with a small switch under the dash, all the dash and gauge lamps were converted / swapped to LED, even the interior lighting.
