What is this B-Body console top for?

'69-'70 B body & maybe C-body.

That would look like this, larger hole and further forward.

And this is the automatic.

Yeah, 4-speed got the big hole - did Chrysler change the AT shifter at some point ? I don't recall.

This plate would have been for the slap stick auto shifter. The early push button auto shifter didn't have the center piece. (Or it was the other way around. )

This is my '69 GTX 4-speed console for a reference. (it has 97k+ miles on it and shifted so many times the shift pattern is worn off of the shifter ball, if you look closely you may be able to see it? Luckily I remembered the shift pattern )

What 4-speed? That's not where the stock shifter comes through.

I've seen one car before with a console but no floor shifter - hard to find photos though. See right side "View A" below

My guess is that they produced a version for aftermarket automatic shifters. The placement of the hole in the plate is the same as for the automatic version - only without the center bar.

My guess is this plate is for a column shifted Car that opted for buckets and console. I must say I have never seen a 69 or 70 B body equipped this way. The diagram just above (view A) shows it would have had some type of filler plate attached.

Probably. Advertised as for a 4-speed, but your idea makes more sense.

Found this image and link to Carid,com listed for a 1970 Charger???? but when you go to the link it doesn't appear, just a bunch of other console and nothing like this one??? I didn't search the entire listing though. Can't see how there would be enough room to shift a 4-speed in that small of an opening. Would a 3-speed trans be any different in space needed to go through the gears?? (I wouldn't think so). BTW it looks like the same image as you posted.

Could be and that slot/opening is for an ashtray or change holder?
