Dougs D452 on a low deck? (383/400) - 02/02/23 07:52 PM

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone is running the Dougs D452 headers (2 inch primaries, 3.5 inch collectors) on a low deck (383/400)? According to the website, the D452's are made for the RB engines (413, 426, 440), but I don't see why the can't be used on a B engine. I know the RB has a taller deck height, so maybe that's a problem when using these headers on a B engine? Maybe the tubes would hang lower on a low deck vs the tall deck? Don't know ...

The main reason that I'm asking is because I'm planning on building a 512 low deck stroker that should put out around 600HP. At that HP level, I think a 2 inch primary tube is the right size.

They'd hang a little lower, would be tighter to the starter (not a big deal with a mini) and might hit the bellhousing (I had to grind the scattershield some for fitment on my RB)

If you can find photos of them installed on an RB, you can likely see if they'd clear everything on a B engine.
I'd look (left side) at front motor mount, dipstick, steering column, starter, clutch linkage, and torsion bars.
Rt side, I'd look at the fndr apron & torsion bar, but usually the right side is the easier side.

I did the opposite with some Hedmans on an RB in an early B, and had no issues except the collectors were higher than the T-bar crossmember.
Solved that with some S-bends for the exhaust.

I. called and asked a tech guy about fitment. He told me they would but hang lower than they recommend. And don't want the bad rap about why there scrapping the ground. I haven't tried it yet because I'm taking their statement with a grain of salt

The other option in the same price range is Hooker SuperComps. They are notorious for poor fitment, but they are tuned length, whereas the D452ā€™s are not. Something to consider. My Hooker Comps fit real nice on my low deck 67 B-Body combo. I would recommend them for fitment. But they are a 1-7/8ā€ / 3ā€ setup. Iā€™m about to tug on the 700hp lever with them.

I have the D452 on my RB and they are very close to the Pitman arm. I had to remove the grease fitting to get the clearance I needed. A low deck will probably move the tube even closer to the arm. twocents

For WIW I've had the 452's on my 70 Satellite with a 383 with zero issues for about 12 years and 24K miles...

My car sets a little higher than most but they do not seem to hang down to far to me...

To my knowledge I've never hit anything with them...
