Would a slant 6 , 727 have the same numbers

Very doubtful as the front of the trans/bellhousing would be completely different beer

most telling would be the high starter location the slanty requires.

No the bellhousing, which is part of the maincase casting, is totally different between the /6 and the small block .

The high-mounted starter makes the /6 easy to spot.

note the starter location in the other two pictures JK supplied.
small block has starter at roughly the 4 o'clock position, while the big block starter is at 3 o'clock.
my easy way to tell them apart at a glance.
