Trick flow 240s and a shaker hood?

Trick flow 240s and a shaker hood? - 11/24/22 01:31 PM

I am wondering if anyone has used Trick Flow 240s with a shaker hood with a six barrel setup (stock). Or any stock intake, really.

I am trying to determine if the heads will allow the manifold to sit at the correct height, so the shaker bubble will not be too low or too high.

Some quick background info: the car is a 70 Cuda. Considering going with TF 240s vs the 906s. I don’t want to mess with the height of the shaker bubble.

The engine is currently apart, and I’m trying to determine what direction I want to go. I haven’t had a chance to mock it up and measure quite yet, and wonder if anyone out there has this combination. I am concerned the shaker bubble will be too tall and rub on the hood trim ring, that type of thing.

Since the Trick Flow 240s will take a stock 6bbl manifold, I am guessing the height will be ok. However, just thought I’d check here to see.

Thanks for the help in advance. Pictures would be greatly appreciated, or any info at all.

Happy Thanksgiving.

one way you could measure to find out.
plop on 906 heads, your intake, and measure from the front [or rear] carb mounting flange to the china wall [front or rear] using a straight edge of some sorts.
then do the same using the TF 240's.
if the carb flange to china wall measurements are close, you should be good.
just throwing this out there as a down and dirty way to compare.

and a Happy Thanksgiving to you as well ! Pengrims

If it will take a stock manifold, then carburetor height should remain the same. Changing manifolds will alter carburetor height.

Ok great, thanks for the info.

I’m leaning toward TF 240s painted orange for a stock-ish look. Thanks for the responses.

I doubt they'll affect manifold height, but as stated, verify by measuring.
I would definitely check port match - I've found mis-match even just changing intakes.

I will be running 240's with a shaker and six pack. When I inquired about shaker fitment I was told it will fit as stock. I cant say for sure because I just got the block back from the machine shop.

I run Indy EZ's on my RB, which raised the intake and Shaker assembly the same.... close to 1/3". Those heads overlap the valley pan close to 1/2" and require a special valley pan cover to seal it up. My Shaker did sit higher, but the hood still closed....barely.

I'm assuming the TF 240's & 270'S don't extend over the valley pan opening, because you can use a stock style valley pan. AndyF would know for sure, but even the Indy EZ's allow the use of a Shaker. I don't like the look of the Shaker bubble being too low through the hood opening any more after seeing how mine looked.

You can see the imprint of the bottom of the intake that had to be cut on the bottom to allow the intake to sit down enough to bolt on. The heat cross over was nearly cut off even with the bottom of the underside runners. That was for the Hughes valley plate, which was also machined for clearance. You won't have any of those issues with a stock valley pan.

I've even heard of some guys shimming the K-member down to gain clearance for their Shaker hoods. I didn't have to go there, as if also can affect the driveline angles.

It will look sooo much better than raw aluminum heads in my opinion.
